Horsemanship is not complicated.

If horsemanship becomes complicated for the student, then the teacher has not truly understood the subject of horsemanship.

The concepts inherent to Horsemanship are relevant to how we live our daily lives. They can be applied to every relationship a person is a part of. One of the ways we can gain a better understanding of these concepts is learning how to be harmonious in our relationship with a horse. In doing so, we learn to be harmonious with ourselves and the world around us.

Horsemanship is over two thousand years old: Knowing that, in all our equestrian past, lies our equestrian future. You may not reach the end of your particular equestrian rainbow, but along the way you will create experiences that will keep you comforted in your darkest trials. So put your best effort forward and find out how far along your rainbow of horsemanship you will travel. All of us who contribute on this web site wish to you the best equestrian adventure there is.

                                            A. Gilpin

My name is Ann, just to formally introduce myself.

The aim of Winnow Equestrian Outreach web site is to bring sound instruction and information to all interested people who have a love for horses.

I myself am a riding teacher of more than 30 years of experience. I am privileged to have been, and I am still being taught by the finest riding masters of our time. I should like to pass that on to as many as possible. My style is of the Austrian-Hungarian school of riding, i.e. the Spanish Riding School, though I myself have not trained there. However, I teach all styles across the board: it is the same no matter what style of riding you, the rider, pursue, or your age or indeed your gender, size, or shape.

The highly acclaimed riding master Egon von Neindorff, of The Neindorff Riding Institute of Karlsruhe, who unfortunately, is no longer with us,  once told me, “All riding has its basics steeped in the classical tradition.” Indeed I watched on occasion Mr. Neindorff give riding instruction to riders from the Black Forest region of Germany who themselves rode their horses in western saddles and bozel bridles. He also told me, “It matters not what style, be they jockeys or dressage riders or how advanced a rider they are - it is what lies in their hearts which makes them true horsemen or not.”

The true masters are a fast disappearing breed of horsemen, meaning in the genderless sense, who are they and what style of riding do they represent? They are the horsemen who are able to pass on their skills to any rider no matter their gender, intellect or preference of saddle style. They have a genuine love of the horse and have the utmost respect for their human students. They carry knowledge of their subject beyond what is actually calculable in any university. How does this phenomenon exist? By living the subject of horsemanship for many years it becomes a part of their DNA.

Erik F. Herbermann my dear friend and mentor for over 25 years, has shown this to me through his example - I consider him without doubt, a riding master.

A riding master is one who is gifted his or her title by the horses; as shown through the horses quiet happy demeanors, strong sound bodies and willingness to perform over the years: In their human students it is shown through in their students riding skills, the students physical growth, spiritual growth and mental growth. Those students have a developed sense that carries respect and love for all living beings. A master also recognizes the continuing need to remain a student themselves.

Though I do not claim to be a riding master myself, it is my heartfelt desire to bring to as many horsemen as possible the benefit of my many years of experience via my enjoyable pathway of long hours of learning from my great teachers, horses and human alike. My students consistently demand from me a honing of my skills so I am better able to assist them on their journey to becoming the best they are able. I personally believe every rider has the potential “Master” residing within. It is up to them to go in search of it. If my guiding hand can be helpful, I, in turn, am enriched from the experience.

Horsemanship is a perfect symbiotic relationship of life.

I believe this can be passed on through the many avenues that today exist, be it in person or to a high degree the internet and what it offers. In honor of my dear riding teachers, who are indeed horses and human, I desire to do this.

Winnow Equestrian Outreach intends to do just that -- to bring to you a source of information through instructional video, e-books: some which are written for the younger reader, others with humor, and others for the more serious reader of “How To’s,” from riding a horse to every other topic in between. We will offer goods that we believe are of good value to you the customer, and links to other sites we believe offer good, true advice and sound products.

We also want to share instructional experience with any interested parties, through photos that are sent to Winnow via email or by looking at a short video and then relay our comments to you via email,[along with a personalized instructional video clip or photos]. Winnow offers this at a small fee, for our desire is to share the best information with all who wish to receive it.

Winnow Equestrian Outreach, will have a panel of experts covering all fields with whom you will be able to contact and ask questions. If we don’t have an expert representing the field of a particular subject, then we will go find one. Please stay tuned as we pull all of this together for you. All of us who contribute on this web site wish the best equestrian adventure there is for you, your horses and all your equestrian friends.
